Auli is a high altitude region in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. The imposing Himalayas can be seen from this region and a panoramic view with mesmerizing sunrise and sunset awaits the visitors. The gentle slopes here provides a perfect setup for skiing as well.
Situated at an altitude of around 3,050 metres (10,010 ft) lies this beautiful region. It provides visitors an opportunity to try skiing. It is equipped with a 4 kms cable car, a chairlift, ski lift and snow making equipment. This region is surrounded by dense forests as well as open grass meadows called Bugyals. Auli is at times also referred as Auli Bugyal. A number of very high Himalayan peaks exceeding 6,000 metres can be viewed very clearly on any non-cloudy day.
Things to Do in Auli
Apart from skiing, you can also do trekking here. The Gorson Bugyal trek (4 kms) and the Kuari Pass Trek are the most famous ones nearby Auli. Visit this place for relaxing and don’t expect sightseeing and entertainment as compared to the other hills stations like Nainital, Mussorrie or Shimla. The beautiful sunrise and sunset on the Himalayan peaks is what will make your trip worthwhile. Feel the silence of crowd, view the different colours of sunrays on the peaks and hear the music of winds.
Important and Noteworthy peaks as seen from Auli
The most striking and awe-inspiring peak visible from Auli is the Nanda Devi Peak. Nanda Devi rises to a height of 7,816 metres ( 25,643 ft ) above sea level and is the second highest mountain in India after Mt. Kanchenjunga. Nanda Devi lies in the Inner Sanctuary of the Nanda Devi National Park. This National Park has more than 25 peaks above 6,000 metres and most of these peaks make a dramatic view during sunset and sunrise.
How to Reach Auli
Auli is situated at a distance of around 270 kms from Rishikesh by road. Dehradun airport is around 20 kms from Rishikesh.
Best times to visit Auli
Best times to visit is all year round. Avoid Monsoon season as the roads can be blocked due to landslides. From December onwards, this place is covered with a thick blanket of snow till March.
